I am writing regarding the proposal by Telus to add an additional credit card processing fees of 1.5% on mobility accounts. I understand that this proposal is presently before the CRTC for approval. I am writing to express my strong disapproval of any credit card processing fees from Telus or any other mobility provider.

Telus has just reported $422 MILLION in profits for Q2 of 2022 which was up by 21% when compared to Q2 of last year. Their earnings has steady increased year over year and yet they feel it is acceptable to try to increase their profit margins even more by charging an additional fee, based on a percentage (which is ambiguous at best), to everyday average Canadians. Canadians which already pay some of the highest mobility and internet fees in the world. This latest proposal for additional fees is another attempt by Telus to confuse consumers, to make paying your mobility account more difficult, and to profit from consumers through byzantine account processes.

The CRTC must stand up for consumers and ensure that bills are clear to understand, that additional fees are strictly regulated and set out for a specific purpose and to avoid fees which are expressed as a percentage. I urge you to refuse Telus' request for this additional fee on the grounds that it is unfriendly to consumers, particularly in an inflationary environment, that the fee is confusing and unjustifiable, and is a blatant attempt to increase profit margins to the detriment of consumers.
