Dear CRTC,

Please allow CJAM to acquire the new frequency at 99.1FM. As host and producer of Minced Meat every Sunday night from 12-2am, I have garnered many, MANY (uncountable) listeners. My show's focus is on LOCAL (windsor/detroit) electronic music and hip hop, and though I have only been doing it for about a year and a half, with no professional DJ or journalism training, I have developed a strong network of within the genres' community. I am responsible for passing music between the artists and our music director, Chris White, as well as have got myself a reputation and am often asked to set up shows for both local and out of town musicians, which, in turn, brings many, many artists and fans together in a positive environment out in the physical community.

Without CJAM and Minced Meat, there would be a void in our community, with hip hop and electronic music being under-represented on a public scale. Though our area is saturated with events and musical releases, there should be a platform available that brings all of these elements together: you could call our jobs at CJAM "organizing culture" if you want, and helping to develop new tastes in the community, that in turn enrich people's lives. Instead of underground hip hop artists trying to get their music on mainstream stations, their goal now seems to be changing in to one that effectively gets their music on non-commercial radio, thus contextualizing their music against their peers, not an unrealistic "Hollywood" illusion. Though the music is wonderfully produced and packaged, it doesn't conform to mainstream standards, hence the importance of locally-based programs and stations.

Thanks very much for your help in advance, and I hope that this letter has allowed you to see how important CJAM is to our music community (and beyond!). Changing our frequency to 99.1FM would increase our ability to reach more people, and would make for better programming, better content and betterment for the folks who listen!

Best,
Emily Copeland
